Our analytical perspective on industrial demand, commodity quality, freight economics and commercial risk; no live prices are published.
Commodity Fundamentals, Price Basis & Freight Exposure
Our market perspective connects industrial demand, material quality, freight economics and contractual exposure. The analysis framework below supports commercial discussions; it is not a live price service, investment recommendation or prediction.
Supply and Demand Fundamentals
We consider production capacity alongside actual output, industrial consumption, inventory levels and import requirements. Installed capacity is not the same as available export supply: maintenance, utilization, domestic demand, operating costs and trade restrictions can change the volume reaching international markets.
Regional balances depend on product grade, transport access and timing. Inventory movements can temporarily absorb a surplus or meet a shortfall, while purchasing cycles and shipment lead times influence the pace at which changes reach delivered markets.
Commodity Price Formation
An offer reflects production and preparation costs, supply constraints, demand cycles and the commercial delivery basis. Freight, terminal charges, energy prices, exchange rates and financing can change delivered economics even when the origin price is unchanged.
Geopolitical developments, sanctions and trade measures may affect origin availability, routing and payment channels. Comparisons should align grade, currency, quantity, analytical basis, delivery period and Incoterm; prices stated on different bases are not directly comparable.
Steel Market Analysis
We assess crude steel output in relation to blast furnace and electric arc furnace operating routes. Blast furnace demand connects ore, coke and injection coal; electric arc furnace demand connects metallic charge, scrap availability and electricity costs. Utilization and planned shutdowns influence purchasing requirements.
Billet and slab economics connect upstream output with rolling demand. Hot-rolled coil, plate, long-product and tube markets respond to distinct construction, manufacturing and infrastructure cycles. Regional import-export flows also reflect product standards, tariffs, freight and delivery lead times.
Coal Market Analysis
Thermal coal comparison needs a consistent calorific-value basis, moisture, ash, sulfur and sizing. Net as-received energy and conversion efficiency matter to the consumer’s useful-energy cost; a headline price per tonne alone can conceal significant differences.
Anthracite, metallurgical coal and thermal coal serve different processes. Coking-coal blend suitability and PCI performance cannot be inferred solely from heating value. Transport cost, cargo characteristics, stockholding, discharge equipment and receiving-plant restrictions influence the commercially acceptable range.
Market Risk Assessment
Commodity volatility, currency movements and freight exposure can affect margins between agreement and delivery. Counterparty review, documentary consistency, payment conditions and claims provisions are separate controls that need transaction-specific attention.
Allocation of cost and transfer of cargo risk are not necessarily simultaneous. Incoterms address specified delivery obligations but do not determine price, ownership transfer, payment security or every charter-party exposure. Contract review should reconcile these separate arrangements.
