Metallurgical Coke

Coke oven & furnace interface — line drawing
Coke oven & furnace interface

We specify coke by chemistry, size, strength and reactivity criteria appropriate to blast furnace or foundry use.

Material characterization and acceptance

We define metallurgical coke by size fraction, moisture, ash, sulphur and fixed carbon, with strength and reactivity measures appropriate to the end use. CSR, CRI and drum-strength indices describe different test outcomes and require specified methods. Blast furnace, foundry and nut coke are not interchangeable grades.

01

Process compatibility and end-use requirements

Blast furnace ironmaking

We review CSR, CRI, size stability and chemistry in relation to burden permeability, mechanical support and reducing-agent requirements; test limits are agreed individually.

Foundry melting

We assess lump size, strength, ash and sulphur against cupola geometry, melt chemistry and thermal demand; foundry acceptance is distinct from blast furnace criteria.

Other metallurgical processes

We define reductant or fuel requirements by process chemistry, size distribution and impurity limits; breeze and nut fractions require separate handling and acceptance provisions.

From coking coal to furnace coke

  1. Coal blend

    Selected coking coals

  2. Coke ovens

    Carbonization under oxygen-limited conditions

  3. Furnace use

Screening, strength review and furnace charging

Indicative process interfaces. Preparation, handling and acceptance depend on the specified grade, receiving equipment and agreed end-use requirements.

We confirm specifications, suitability and availability individually for the agreed supply scope. These applications do not represent a product performance guarantee.

Indicative Specifications — Subject to Contract

Contractual acceptance requires confirmed grade, composition or ratings, dimensions, analytical basis, sampling method, applicable standard and edition, tolerances and inspection evidence. No unverified numerical limits or conformity guarantees are assigned.
